Vice President of the European Committee of Social Rights of the Council of Europe, and Professor at the Jagiellonian University. Graduated from the Jagiellonian University in law (1966) and sociology (1969). He also received a master’s degree at the Faculty of Law at the Pennsylvania University in Philadelphia (1977).
Member of the International Organization of Labor Law and Social Security (IOSS), International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA) and the Polish Association of European Law.
Expert for the European Union Commission in the field of labor law. In the years 2002-2005 participant of the General Conference organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO). Conference papers presented in Sydney, Helsinki, Dublin, Tokyo, Oslo, Vilnius, Leuven, Brussels, and Lima. University lectures given in: Sydney, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Indiana, Leicester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Columbia, New York, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Bologna, at LUISS in Rome, in Leuven, Ghent, Bochum, Uppsala, Stockholm, Pecs, at Charles University in Prague, in Turek and Helsinki.
Since 1988 Świątkowski has been the Head of the Chair of Labor Law and Social Policy of the Jagiellonian University, as well as Jean Monnet Professor of European Labor Law and Social Security. He is a coordinator of the Tempus/Erasmus program both at a national and international level in the field of European social security law. The author of more than 400 publications, including 30 academic texts (monographs, textbooks, commentaries) dealing with Polish, comparative and international labor and social security law and social policies.
